What Is PD (Pupillary Distance)?

PD stands for Pupillary Distance, which is the distance between the centers of your pupils, measured in millimeters.

This simple measurement helps ensure your prescription lenses are positioned correctly in front of your eyes for the best possible vision and comfort.

By aligning the optical center of the lenses with the center of your pupils, an accurate PD helps provide clearer vision, better comfort, and a more natural viewing experience.

___

Why Is PD Important?

Your prescription tells us the lens power you need, while your PD helps us place that prescription in the correct position within your lenses.

Together, these measurements help create glasses that feel comfortable and provide clear, accurate vision throughout the day.

___

Single PD vs. Dual PD

There are two common types of PD measurements:

Single PD

This is one number that measures the total distance between both pupils.

Dual PD

This measures from the center of your nose to each pupil separately—one measurement for the right eye and one for the left eye.

Dual PD offers even greater accuracy and is often preferred for prescription lenses, especially for progressive lenses and stronger prescriptions.

How Can I Find My PD?

You may find your PD listed on your prescription from your eye doctor, but sometimes it may not be included.

If it’s missing, don’t worry, you can:

- Ask your optometrist or local optical store for it

- Measure it at home using a ruler and mirror

- Use our easy PD guide to help you get the most accurate result (link to pd guide (FAQs) or copy pd guide from FAQs and place at the bottom of this page)
